The Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) is the oceanographic component of the Global Earth Observing System of Systems (GEOSS).

GOOS consists of many different programmes, all of which are concerned in some way with monitoring the ocean for the world's nations. The different programmes cover activities such as protecting life and property on coastlines, ocean/weather forecasting and damage mitigation from natural hazards. Data products such as sea temperature and salinity and sea surface height are provided from GOOS in the form of satellite and in situ measurements in NRT. The data is sourced from a vast array of governmental and industrial organisations and is available in a Google Earth format for easy display and visualisation.
