The Altimetry for COastal REgions or ALTICORE initiative was focused on improving the quality and availability of Altimeter data along and near the coasts of European seas and also aimed to investigate effective methods of reliable data exchange through dedicated web services and data management infrastructures.

The project approach was aimed at mitigating, or removing where possible, the obstacles to the operational use of altimetry over coastal areas, with particular reference to European seas, specifically the Mediterranean, Black, Caspian, White and Barents Seas.

ALTICORE involved a consortium of six teams from Europe, Russia and Azerbaijan and was funded by INTAS, an independent association supported by the European Community and the European Union member states. The project duration was two years and was completed in November 2008.
