Jason-1 Hydrazine Depletion Maneuvers planned for 20-July to 06-August-2010

The following message from Emilie BRONNER details the Jason-1 Hydrazine Depletion Maneuvers planned for 20-July to 06-August-2010.

All Jason-1 instruments will remain operational during these maneuvers and no disruption to the delivery of operational or science data products is foreseen.

However, we recommend using the upcoming products from Cycle 315 and 316 with extreme caution, until the impacts of these maneuvers are fully assessed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear OSTST,

As mentioned previously, last Jason-1 Joint Steering Group decided to let the satellite on its orbit and to perform partial tank depletion.

Between 10 to 12 out of plane maneuvers will be necessary to empty about half of remaining propellant (about 11 kg).

The maneuvers will begin on the 20th of July around 19:00 UTC (start of cycle 315) up to the 6th of August, during working days only.

The instruments will stay ON during these maneuvers. The impact on the orbit inclination will be 0.04° max.

So products of cycle 315 and 316 will be possibly degraded and will have to be used with caution by users.
